The 24-year-old woman's side will request a re-examination of the sample held in the laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and possibly a hair test "A rape does not result only from pills" says Georgia Bika and responds to the negative toxicology and the announcements of the ELAS, through his lawyer, Vassilis Leventis

The mystery in the case of the rape of Georgia Bika intensifies after the negative results of the toxicology tests of the 24-year-old. Investigating and police authorities are struggling to solve the mystery with the analysis of DNA on Georgia Bika's clothes and the findings from the lifting of phone privacy on the cell phones of all those involved.

The Forensic Laboratories of Security have put under the microscope all the mobile phones of the company of the four Athenians and Thessaloniki metre, tablets, computers and usb, in order to find out if there is material related to the night in question and previous ones, to see if there is an organized circuit behind the story.

Things are complicated by the testimonies of the first of a total of 50 people who attended the New Year's Eve party of the group of four Athenians, who say it was a "mute" and indifferent gathering of unknown people who did not talk to each other. They say they saw Georgia Bika at 4.10pm, when she went back up to the suite, in good condition and leaving the venue with Vassilis Leventis.

What does Georgia Bika say after the negative toxicology and the statements of the ELAS

24-year-old Georgia Bika responded to the allegations of the police and the forensic service of Thessaloniki, regarding the forensic examination and the toxicology tests.

"That day I went from the first moment to the police, a policeman took my statement, during the statement and while I had said that I was in this hotel they had not given an order not to clean this room, they changed shift so the policeman who came said that 'wrongly you take a statement from the girl and you have not ordered not to clean the room and then gave the order, "says to "zougla" Georgia Bika.

"They did not give me urine collectors, they told me that I have to go get them. I searched for about 40 minutes, I couldn't find them because my vision was blurry. I put on GPS and with great difficulty I managed to find a pharmacy and I came back but they didn't tell me at that moment 'give the urine'," she added.

Georgia Bika said she did not expect the toxicology tests, as "a rape does not result from pills alone" and says she is disappointed "if someone has to prove a rape with a test."

Georgia Bika said she did not expect the toxicology tests, as "a rape does not result from pills alone" and says she is disappointed "if someone has to prove a rape with a test.

She went on to say that during the police's contact with the forensic service, the coroner reassured them that everything would show up in the urine and they did not need to take blood.

"They then told me that they would immediately take my blood, do a forensic test and urine. That was in my first statement. I was told you will go immediately for forensic examination, blood and urine. They called the coroner and she said everything can be seen with the urine and no blood is needed. They took me in the afternoon for a forensic examination, they didn't do it the same day, but they took me the next day for the examination," she said.

She goes on to say that the next day they told her she would not do the examination then either. "They then told me that they would not do it today either and I begged them to help me because I could not stay the next day without washing," Georgia said.

"I read the notice from the police that I was given urine collectors. I didn't understand why they stated that. I don't know what they were expecting and there was such a delay in taking urine. Even the urine collectors that I took, they didn't tell me at that moment to go and give the urine and I was waiting with the cans to be told... I didn't know how important the test was at that moment," she says."

Georgia Bika says she proceeded with another test this time with hair showing if she was given a rape pill.

The negative results of Georgia Bika's toxicology tests and the mistakes made during her examination procedure by the forensic service of Thessaloniki were also commented by Dimitris Galenteris, forensic expert and technical adviser of the 24-year-old woman.

"The rape pill cannot be detected after the reasonable period of twelve hours neither in the urine nor in the blood. Therefore, if we only look for this substance, the moment of sampling will not bring us any positive result," he said, speaking to ERT.

Refuting the announcement of the Thessaloniki Police Directorate which issued a statement that the sampling was done in time, Mr. Galenteris clarified that it took place 18 hours after the alleged incident.

Regarding the low levels of alcohol detected in the girl's urine, the coroner pointed out that "what appeared in the tests are some metabolites of ethanol. These metabolites cannot give us the number of drinks consumed. These tests are done to establish the amount of alcohol and not to establish the amount of intoxication he was in."

The sample will be re-examined

Commenting on the results of the toxicology tests sent from Switzerland, Galenteris said that "we have no reason to question the results. The Georgian side has the right to request a re-examination of the sample held in the laboratory of the APS."

Regarding the non-detection of substances referring to the rape pill, the forensic expert reiterated that "the sample taken after 18 hours is negative. That evidence has been lost."

Explaining the next steps he will take as technical advisor to 24-year-old Georgia Bika, he said that we will ask for a retest to make sure these results are correct. We ought to do a second review. Then, we can also request a hair test that can yield results for the substance we are looking for, the rape pill, four to six weeks after the reported act."

He added that Georgia's side will request that every diagnostic tool in existence be eliminated, noting that the process will take a long time.

Georgia Bika's lawyer on her tests

An announcement on the negative results of the toxicology tests of Georgia Bika, who alleged that she was a victim of rape in Thessaloniki, was released by her lawyer Thanasis Ziogas.

Regarding alcohol, he points out that "no reduction can be made from the ethanol metabolites detected in the urine to the size and severity of intoxication".

With regard to drugs and in particular the so-called rape pill, its detection, as he stresses, "was absolutely impossible anyway", because the urine sample examined was taken at least 18 hours after the complaint, while it was detected, according to him, up to 12 hours.

Mr. Ziogas notes, in addition, that new tests will follow on the anti-sample of urine that has been preserved in the laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, but also more specialized tests on other elements of the 24-year-old woman's body, such as the scalp and the dna samples that have already been detected.

"Now the real fight for Georgia begins," his statement concludes, among other things.

The statement of the lawyer of Georgia Bika, Thanasis Ziogas

In relation to the first results of the toxicological tests we can observe the following:

In relation to alcohol, based on the literature, no reduction can be made from the ethanol metabolites detected in urine to the size and severity of intoxication. Because urine refers to material whose composition is not constant, but is constantly changing over time, unlike blood.

As for substances, the so-called rape pill, G-Hydroxybutyric acid, also according to the literature is detectable in blood for up to six hours and in urine for up to 12 hours.

The urine sample taken in Georgia in the late afternoon of 1 January, i.e. at least 18 hours after the critical time, when the detection of the substance in question was in any case absolutely impossible in the particular sample tested. That is why we have pointed out from the outset that scientific data are important, but they must be evaluated in a context and always in conjunction with all the facts of the case.

Of course, new tests will follow on the urine antisample that has been preserved in the laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki - hopefully under the right conditions and after we have made sure that the antisample really belongs to Georgia by identifying its DNA - and then we will proceed to more specific tests on other elements of her body, such as: the scalp, but also in relation to the DNA samples that have already been detected.

Now the real struggle begins for Georgia, who had the courage to report her rape, but also for all those women who have experienced similar situations in the past and are now thinking of reporting.

Because for all these women there are certainly no toxicology test results, nor will there be any. There is only the stigmatizing experience that is the only driving force behind their reporting. And it is this experience that we must all help to clothe in the light of justice. The beginning of this has been made. There is more to come... -."

Lawyer Vassilis Leventis: My client feels vindication

The 27-year-old accused of the rape of Georgia Bikas, Vassilis Leventis, expresses his relief through his lawyer for the negative results of the toxicology tests.

"The results are negative. We declared from the first moment that we had nothing to do with what we were accused of. We had absolute confidence in the justice system. My clients on hearing the results felt not just relief, but vindication," said lawyer Dimitris Tsakos, adding that his clients "reserve their right against all those responsible."
