[Cyprus Times] Minimum wage, pensions and GESY at the heart of the meeting between the President of the Republic and the PES

Written statement by the Government Spokesman Mr.Marios Pelekanos on the meeting of the President of the Republic with a delegation of the PEA The President made special reference to the Special Plans for dealing with the effects of the pandemic and the policies that have been implemented to protect the rights of workers

The President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades received today, at the Presidential Palace, the Executive Secretariat of the PEO.

According to the Government Spokesman, Mario Pelican, "during the meeting, the President of the Republic informed, among others, the PEO Executive Secretariat on developments in relation to the implementation of the minimum wage, the employment strategy for workers from third countries, the GESY and the modernisation of the pension system".

The President made special reference to the Special Plans to deal with the consequences of the pandemic, which have supported more than 210 thousand workers, unemployed and employers, with an expenditure of more than 2 billion euros, which, together with other policies, have contributed to reducing unemployment to its lowest level since 2009.

Special reference was also made to the substantial policies implemented to protect workers' rights.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Finance, Labour, the Government Spokesperson, the Deputy Minister to the President, the Deputy Government Spokesperson and officials.
