The issue of the minimum wage was discussed, among others, at a meeting of its leadership held on Friday with a delegation of the PEA, headed by General Secretary Sotiroula Charalambous, according to a statement issued.
On the part of the FCC, the meeting was attended by president George Fragos and vice-president Lenia Karatzia, while on behalf of the PEO, also present were An. General Secretary Michael Papanikolaou, the Executive Director of the Association, Ms. Secretary Marina Koukou, the Head of International Relations Pieris Pieris Pieris and the Secretary General of SIDHEKEKE Nikos Grigoriou.
The statement notes that between the leaderships of the two unions there was mutual information on the most important issues that concern them and it was agreed to strengthen the effort of mutual information on issues of common interest as well as the effort to widen the front of demands on important issues that concern all workers such as the minimum wage, the ATA, the pension system, etc.For her part, Sotiroula Charalambous informed the delegation of the NCP about the priorities of the PEPO this period, as defined by the recent Congress of the Federation.

Particular reference was made to the ongoing discussions on the issue of the minimum wage where the position of the PEO in favour of the introduction of a minimum wage for workers whose work is not governed by a collective agreement was explained. At the same time, the PEO's position was expressed on the need for the discussion on the introduction of a minimum wage to be linked to regulations guaranteeing that where and when there are minimum wages agreed in collective agreements, these will be the binding minimum wages.
In addition, the PES General Secretary referred to the fight against the deregulation of labour relations that has been attempted in recent years and underlined, among other things, the PES position against the 12% penalty on pensions for those who retire early.
The president of the NPC George Fragos, according to the statement, stressed that it is a given that there will be close cooperation with the PEA in the workplaces where both guilds are active, while he underlined the intention of the journalists' trade union body to become part of the front for the major issues that are currently at the heart of the workers' demands.
Frangos also agreed with the position of the PEO that the minimum wage should in no way undermine the collective agreements governing various professions, including that of journalists, the statement concluded.
