"We stand ready to take additional measures if conditions warrant," said US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm
Washington announced today that it will release 30 million barrels of oil in an effort to support the international energy market amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with the US stressing that it will take further measures as needed.
"We stand ready to use every tool at our disposal to limit the disruption to global energy supplies as a result of (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin's actions," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.
60 million. barrels
"We will also continue our efforts (...) to prevent Moscow from weaponizing oil and gas supplies," the statement added."
The US and 30 member countries of the International Energy Agency have agreed to release 60 million barrels of oil from their strategic reserves to stabilize the global energy market, the US Department of Energy said in a separate statement.
Ready for additional measures
"We are prepared to take additional measures if conditions warrant," US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said.
[/B][/B]Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he had spoken with US President Joe Biden about sanctions against Russia and defense assistance to his country. "We need to stop the aggressor as soon as possible. Thank you for your support!" he tweeted.
According to a White House official, the phone call between the two leaders lasted about 30 minutes.
