Over 70 years old, unvaccinated and with underlying diseases, the majority of patients dying from coronavirus recently, explained the professor Athena Linou expressed concern about the prevalence of Omicron 2
On the course of the pandemic in the country, the increase in deaths in recent days and the Omicron mutation were discussed in the ANT1 Morning Press programme by Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and member of the Expert Committee Gikas Majorkinis and Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Athens, Athina Linou.
As Mr. Mayorkinis, the Omicron mutation seems to dominate with cases from Delta down to 4,000 5,000.
On the profile of deaths recorded recently, Mr. Mayorkinis said that the key figure is that 75% to 82% of deaths are people over 70 years of age who are unvaccinated, adding that deaths at younger ages have declined.
She also noted that the Omicron mutation may be milder, however she said this does not mean that it is completely innocent.
For her part, Linu noted that at the moment we are on a high plateau. At the same time, she noted that internationally there is concern that Omicron 2 will prevail, which Ms. Linou said seems to have a superiority in terms of infectivity, however she noted that it does not seem to be more aggressive.
For his part, George Syrpi, a psychiatrist on probation as he is unvaccinated while sick with coronavirus and still refusing the vaccine noted that both he and other unvaccinated colleagues are asking to return to work, doing two rapid tests a week. At the same time, he reiterated his opposition to the coronavirus vaccine, as he said it is at an experimental stage.
For her part, Linou noted that in Greece alone 10,000 children have been orphaned by coronavirus and added that those who are unvaccinated both fall ill again and transmit the virus. The same is true for the vaccinated, with the difference that those who have had the third dose will not lose their lives, Linou stressed.
Gikas Majiorkinis called ridiculous the claims that mRNA vaccine modifies DNA. There is no doctor who does not support vaccines. It is dangerous to say such things, he noted, adding that it is up to the medical association to decide whether to fire doctors who do not support vaccines. It is a question of ethics, he stressed.
