The bidding process for water sports continues as normal, says the Mayor of Paralimni
The annulment of the court order against the Municipality of Paralimni by managers of Marine Sports proceeded on Friday, January 28, the Famagusta District Court, according to Mayor Theodoros Pyrilli, who says the bidding process will continue as normal.
In a post on a personal social media account, the Mayor says that "the tender committee of the Municipality of Paralimni has announced public tenders for the provision of services (watersports) at the Municipality's beaches".
He says that existing beach managers complain that there should have been a provision that bidders must have five years of experience in the area to be eligible to bid, as stipulated in a relevant regulation (not a law) of Parliament.
The Attorney General, the mayor continues, opined that such a provision is contrary to Cypriot Laws and the European Acquis and should not have been included in the tenders because it would make them photographic.
The Municipality of Paralimni "applying to the letter the Circular of the Central Beaches Committee, the opinion of the Attorney General, the opinion of the lawyer of the Central Beaches Committee, the opinion of the legal advisor of the Municipality of Paralimni and the positions and opinions of the Audit Service to the Minister of Interior, did not include in the offers a provision that would photograph the existing managers" says the Mayor.
The existing beach managers appealed to the Court and secured an injunction preventing the Municipality of Paralimni from proceeding with the bidding process.
"On Friday 28 January, the Famagusta District Court annulled the aforementioned decree issued in favour of the sea sports managers and vindicated the Municipality of Paralimni, myself personally and the other members of the committee against whom the decree was directed" says Mr. Pyrillis.
The bidding process will continue as normal, he continues, "with every respect to the right of anyone to participate in the public bids."
Existing managers, he says, can participate in these transparent procedures if they wish, while noting that "the beaches of the Municipality are not the lace and chiffon of anyone."
