\NRegret for the outbreak of cases, many church people with cases, Archbishop said
Archbishop[/B] Chrysostomos expressed his regret because as he said, the last day of this year is painful for our people, since, where we expected a regression in the pandemic that has plagued us for two years, we observe an upsurge
He was speaking after the rendition of the New Year's Eve calls by the Police and National Guard Philharmonic bands at the Archdiocese.
"This disease, is not going to go away completely. It will remain, as a disease like the others, for the treatment of which there will be cheap medicines.
Unfortunately, many have contacted me in the last few days, who have been influenced by people of our own, I mean of the Church. What I advised them is to trust their doctors as they do for other illnesses. We all need to be responsible people, to take care of ourselves and our fellow human beings. If the parents get sick, what will happen to the children? If the soldiers fall ill, who will guard the country? And all of this has spiritual implications," he added. John Ioannis Ioannou, Primate of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus, watched with great pleasure the excellent performance of the traditional hymns and calls by the philharmonic bands of the Police and the National Guard.
His Beatitude thanked the philharmonic bands for the performance of the calls and wished everyone a constructive New Year, which always depends on ourselves.
Basil the Great, whom we shall celebrate, His Beatitude said, loved man, the image of God, and with great care served and responsibly protected him. But also the great Apostle Paul, he continued, had with him constantly Luke the Evangelist, who was a physician, because he respected and recognized science.
\N"I wish from the bottom of my heart that better days will dawn for our country, for our people and that the longed-for liberation of our occupied homeland will be achieved," he added.
The choir of the National Guard, at the urging of His Beatitude, also sang the traditional Cypriot song "the shepherd".
