[/QUOTE]The Russian president is unrepentant in his contacts with country leaders The conflict will only stop if the Ukrainians stop fighting, Putin told Erdogan earlier
French President Emmanuel Macron had an hour and 45 minutes of talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the invasion of Ukraine.
According to Sky News, the two discussed the situation and Russia's demands to end the war. This is not the first time the two have spoken as they had discussed by phone again within the week with French sources reporting that there was nothing encouraging about the possibility of ending the conflict.
The communication came after Putin had a conversation today with Recep Tayyip Erdogan in which the Turkish president urged him to declare a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Putin to Erdogan: The war will stop if the Ukrainians stop fighting
The Russian president, for his part, however, said in his telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart that "the military operation" in Ukraine will stop only if the Ukrainians stop fighting and only if Moscow's demands are met, according to a Kremlin statement.
Putin said the operation was proceeding according to a planned timetable and that he hoped Ukrainian negotiators would take a more constructive approach to the talks and take into account the reality on the ground, the Kremlin said in a statement. It added that Moscow is ready for dialogue with Ukraine and foreign partners.
For his part, Erdogan, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency, called on the Russian president to declare a ceasefire in Ukraine, open humanitarian corridors and sign a peace agreement
In the statement released after an hour-long telephone conversation, the Turkish presidency said Erdogan stressed to Putin that Ankara was ready to contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, adding that the ceasefire would alleviate concerns about the humanitarian situation. "President Erdogan renewed his call 'let's pave the way for peace together'," his office said. "Erdogan stressed the importance of taking urgent measures to achieve a ceasefire, opening humanitarian corridors and signing a peace agreement."
