As the Government Spokesman said in a written statement, President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades notes that the decision to table the Regulations on Officials' Service Vehicles was taken in the context of an agreement with the trade unions for the gradual restoration of benefits in the public sector, and following a request from the trade union body of the Directors General.
In taking the decision, it was taken into account that the additional budgetary cost of this benefit would be limited since it would not require the acquisition of any vehicle.
It should be noted that the intention to reintroduce this benefit was the subject of consultation between the Directors-General's trade union and the parliamentary parties.
Nevertheless, and taking into account the relevant concerns that have been expressed about the exploitation of the specific provisions of the Regulations in question, as well as to satisfy the sense of justice, the President has instructed the Minister of Finance to withdraw the Regulations in question.
