The President of the House of Representatives, Anita Demetriou, sent today a letter of condolence on behalf of all Members of Parliament to the First Vice-President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, on the death of the President of the European Parliament, David Maria Sassoli.

According to a Parliament press release, in her letter the President of Parliament noted that President Sassoli "was a fierce defender of European ideals and served the European Parliament with integrity and selfless devotion, guided by the sense of justice that pervaded his decisions and actions".

David Maria Sassoli's firm commitment to strengthening European solidarity, defending the rule of law and promoting important projects and reforms have led the European Parliament to take the necessary bold steps that these difficult times require.

"Above all, we will remember President Sassoli as a man with a vision, that of shaping a fairer, more human-centred and more promising and promising future for European citizens, especially for young people", Ms Demetriou stresses and concludes: "It leaves us an important legacy."
