The problems of Larnaca schools were discussed at a wide meeting
The problems faced by Larnaca's secondary and technical education schools were discussed today at a wide meeting organised at the initiative of the Federation of Associations of Parents and Guardians of Larnaca Secondary and Technical Education Schools under the motto "Larnaca schools concern us all".
A statement from the Federation said that "the meeting was attended by the Mayors of Larnaca and Livadia, MPs of DISY, AKEL of ELAM, a representative of EDEK, a representative of the Larnaca District Office of the Ministry of Education, the Presidents and members of the Larnaca, Aradippou and Livadia School Boards, the President of the Pancyprian Parents' Confederation, Aradippou Municipal Councillor, the President of the Larnaca School Board and the President of the Larnaca ESEM.
There are also schools that do not have a single closed event hall, others do not have any multipurpose hall, classrooms are constantly flooded due to the rains so that lessons, sports and games cannot take place, while in some cases serious health and safety issues are created," he pointed out.
He said that "many school buildings are outdated, resulting in constant problems of cracks, falling ceilings, slabs, windows, problems in their electrical and telecommunication systems, fire safety problems and others. The problem with heating in winter and air conditioners in summer is still acute, while in many schools the common areas are inadequate, some lack the necessary shelters, benches and other creative spaces," he said.
According to Kostas, "problems are observed with the security of school units, the adjacent pedestrian crossings, the safe transportation of students by bus. Few schools have satisfactory sports facilities, there are serious problems with the changing rooms of some of them and other necessary equipment, while the condition of the sports facilities of the two sports schools of the city is tragic."
The President of the Federation also noted that "many times we are faced with the view that for this or that issue the School Ephorate is responsible, for the other issue is the Technical Services of the Ministry of Education.
