The Larnaca Port and Marina project upgrades the Cyprus economy, says Karousosos

A project that will upgrade and significantly boost the economy of the whole of Cyprus was described by the Transport Minister on Friday, Communications and Works Minister, Yannis Karousos, noting that the benefit to the economy per year will be around 120 million euros.

Mr. Karousos, together with members of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works, paid a visit to the Larnaca District and specifically to the Larnaca Port, the Larnaca District Engineer's Office for Public Works, and the Larnaca District Archaeological Museum.

In his statements, the Minister of Transport said that together with the relevant Parliamentary Transport Committee, they were briefed by Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd on the progress of the Larnaca Port and Marina development project. He said that the Parliamentary Transport Committee was briefed on "the development, details and timelines of this mega project, which is essentially the largest investment we have in Cyprus at the moment and will exceed €1.2 billion, with a benefit to the economy per year of around €120 million. Mr. Karousos said that "everything is on schedule" and that "we will be ready on April 1st to hand over the Port and Marina of Larnaca to the investor" and spoke about a project that will upgrade and significantly strengthen the economy of the whole Cyprus.

For his part, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works, Marinos Mousiuttas said that in the context of the new Parliament, the Transport Committee decided to make this tour throughout Cyprus to see issues and problems on the ground that fall within its remit, he said and stressed that the visit to Larnaca today is also in this context.

We heard from the investors, Moussiuttas said, "how this project will be developed. What we have gained so far is that there is a huge unanimity from all the stakeholders in Larnaca, Town Halls, government departments, private individuals, so that this project will be a jewel for both Larnaca and Cyprus. We as a Commission, he said, will follow the progress of the project, we are ready to help wherever needed."

Subsequently, he also mentioned the visits to the Provincial Public Works Engineer and the Archaeological Museum which opened its gates the day before yesterday.

Asked to say whether the construction works at the Port and Marina of Larnaca will affect its proper functioning, Mr.

In turn, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras thanked the Transport Committee for its interest and visit, saying that the Committee's role "was particularly helpful during the procurement process."

In his turn, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras thanked the Transport Committee for its interest and visit, saying that the Committee's role "was very helpful during the procurement process. Too many times the issue was discussed in the Committee and the role of the MPs was very helpful in many cases."

He went on to express his satisfaction as "the project is proceeding according to plans and schedules and this is due to all stakeholders, the Ministry, the state services."

He noted the interest shown by the investors themselves, who "are doing everything they can to ensure that the project proceeds as planned. What I want to say is that as Larnaca we are looking forward to this project with great impatience."

It is a project, Vyras said, "for which the city has been struggling for decades and we are happy to see its implementation." The issue now, he continued, is for it to move forward and be implemented according to our expectations. He finally spoke of a project that will bring cooperation and help economic development and improve the quality of life in the city.
