Larnaca Drainage Board's precautionary measures for heavy rainfall
The Larnaca Drainage Board (LDS) gives precautionary measures to citizens in case of heavy rainfall, in order to avoid problems to their homes and properties.
In a written statement, SAL said that "the rains are highly beneficial for our country. However, to avoid leaving behind problems and streets full of hazards, the public can take several preventive measures."
First of all, "we should check the rainwater drainage grates which are located in front of, near or even opposite our premises so that they are clean and have a natural flow. Still the public should make sure that no scattered building materials or junk are left on sidewalks or open spaces or rivers that can be carried away by rainwater and create more problems."
According to the SAC, "the public should make sure that drainage manholes are not covered with rocks, boxes, skip or machinery. It is also important that sewage and storm water manhole covers should not be opened under any circumstances, as the life of the person opening it, the life of persons passing by and damage is caused to passing vehicles."
SAL "appeals to the public, in case they find sewage overflow or any cover/cap has been damaged, moved or tampered with, to call to report the incident at 24652075 or report it in writing at om@lsdb.org.cy."
