A laboratory in Paphos fooled the system by testing with ear swabs... but he was caught - The Ministry of Health immediately revoked his licence

By Mikaela Koulle

The license of a laboratory conducting rapid tests in Paphos was summarily revoked by the Ministry of Health, after information that the place was conducting tests with ear swabs.

As the Cyprus Times is reliably informed, the incident occurred some 20 days ago when the complaint reached the relevant state services.

After an audit was carried out, it was found that the laboratory was indeed using ear swabs instead of the appropriate consumables and was issuing regular certificates against covid-19.

The Ministry of Health immediately - the next day - intervened by withdrawing the licence to carry out tests from the site.

However, reports say that strict instructions were given by Health Minister Michael Hatzipandela, as regular and sudden checks were made both in laboratories and pharmacies to avoid similar incidents.
