The exchange of accusations of attacks between Kiev and the pro-Russian separatists continues.

Ukraine's army today (Thursday) accused pro-Russian rebels in the east of firing shells at a village in Luhansk province, hitting a kindergarten.

According to the same source, there were no injuries.

Observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) noted that they have recorded several incidents of shelling along the line of contact between pro-Russian rebels and the Ukrainian army, a diplomatic source said, raising concerns of escalating tensions.

Earlier, the rebels had complained that Kiev had shelled their areas with mortars, further escalating tensions between Russia and the West. Kiev has denied it attacked separatist positions.

Russia is "closer" to war with Ukraine as it continues to deploy troops, British Secretary of State for Defence James Hippy warned, speaking to Sky News.
