Around 7 the next morning, the 19-year-old sent a message to one of her parents, writing "I love you"
According to legal documents obtained by People, it was this message that motivated Allen's parents to immediately contact the US telecommunications company Verizon and learn that the message was sent from the small town of Loa, just miles from their daughter's home. Immediately an alarm went off in their minds, as they knew the young girl had no access to a vehicle. Moreover, the content of the message itself, which contained no information other than this expression of love, seemed extremely suspicious to the girl's parents
"I think they found it kind of odd because it was just that phrase," Sunpit County Prosecutor Kevin Daniels told the US site.
Based on that message and the missing persons report from Allen's parents, authorities soon discovered messages on the girl's cellphone number "whose nature suggested that she may have been exposed to people with dangerous intentions and motives."
Putting Loa's at the center of their investigation, officers launched a large-scale investigation, searching door-to-door for the missing teen.
When they arrived at the home where the 39-year-old kidnapper of the young woman resided, and before ringing the doorbell, officers glanced at the basement window
and saw "a petite woman with light-colored hair." "Whether or not you believe in divine intervention, I personally believe a higher power intervened," Daniels said, referring to the circumstances under which the arrest was made.

The resident of the home, later identified as Brent Brown told officers he was alone in the house and refused to let them enter to search. However, authorities secured the homeowner's consent to go inside and a short time later, discovered the girl naked under a pile of charcoal.
History of the case
According to reports, Allen had met Brown online in a chat group and arranged for him to pick her up from her dorm on Dec. 13. Cameras captured the young girl leaving her dorm holding a plastic bag. Her fellow students reported her missing the next day when they saw she had not returned.
During the days he forcibly kept the 19-year-old girl at his home, the 39-year-old became progressively more violent, according to her testimony. On 14 December he allowed the young woman to send a message to her family, but then took her mobile phone and wallet to ensure she could not escape. When he left to go to work he would tie the girl up and had threatened her that if she left him or told anyone what had happened, he would hurt her family.
Brown himself said after his arrest that he met the investigators in a chat group about the sexual fetish bondage fetish and that during his time at home their relationship was consensual. He even justified tying her up when he left for work, saying it was as part of an erotic "role play", and that the girl, although tied up, had access to food and the bathroom.

The girl herself told authorities after her rescue that Brown raped her several times a day and that she did not want any contact with him, however she was afraid to escape because he had threatened to hurt her sister or another family member since he knew her home address.
