Ioannis Kasoulides received the portfolio of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the former Minister, Nikos Christodoulides at the handover ceremony held shortly after the assurance ceremony with the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades.

During the ceremony, Nicos Christodoulides did not hide his emotion and confessed that today is a difficult day for him.

"It is not an easy day for me at all. I am sad as after 23 years of friction with the foreign ministry, 19 as a diplomat and four as foreign minister, I am leaving for reasons I listed during my remarks on Sunday. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to complete the work, to say goodbye to my colleagues, to take stock. But I will say that I am very proud of the ministry and its people," he said.

In turn, the new Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides said that he is particularly happy to take over the ministry and the position from Nikos Christodoulides, who managed to carve a successful path.

"As I have said, there will be no change in our foreign policy, but we may give more importance to some fronts. It may be necessary first to pay more attention to the diplomats accredited in Cyprus. And one of the efforts of the Foreign Ministry is to go in that direction," Kasoulides said.
