The President of the Republic of Cyprus' proposal on Varosha was conveyed by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides to his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken during their meeting on Tuesday in Washington, D.C., as part of the Foreign Ministry's working visit to the United States.
In a statement to CNA, Foreign Ministry Press Spokesman Demetris Demetriou described the meeting of the Cyprus and US Foreign Ministers as very good.
According to him, Mr. Blinken congratulated Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides on his return to the Foreign Ministry and reiterated the US commitment to deepen cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus. Among other things, he continued, the two Ministers discussed the 3+1 mechanism with Greece and Israel and expressed a joint view on returning to the political dynamics agreement.
The two Ministers, he said, discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, including the importance of coordinating actions in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also stressed the importance of increasing scientific cooperation on issues such as climate change and emerging technologies through the upcoming signing of a bilateral Science and Technology Agreement.
The U.S. Secretary expressed the United States' continued support for efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem under the auspices of the United Nations, towards a solution of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality for the benefit of all Cypriots, and Mr. Kasoulides conveyed the proposal of the President of the Republic of Cyprus on Varosha, Mr. Demetriou concluded.
