2022 will be a year of normalization for Turkey, Kalin said

2022 will be a year of new regional initiatives and accelerated normalization steps for Turkey. "We will not ignore the hand reaching out to us said Turkish Presidency Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin. "If you take one friendly step towards us, we will take two."

According to the Press and Information Office, Kalin made the remarks in an interview with Kriter magazine and in response to questions from SETA (Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research) General Coordinator Burhanettin Duran.

Asked about his predictions on issues such as the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey-Greece relations and North Africa in 2022, Mr. Kalin said the new year "will be a year in which new regional initiatives and normalization steps will be accelerated."

"We are evaluating the recent steps taken with Egypt and the United Arab Emirates in this context. This can be followed by other steps. We believe that these are all steps that contribute to our national interests, regional vision and world peace."[/P KALIN RECALLED THAT 2021 WAS A RELATIVELY DIFFICULT YEAR IN TERMS OF GLOBAL EPIDEMICS AND NATURAL DISASTERS.

"Turkey, while increasing its own opportunities and capabilities in every field, continues to strengthen its allied relations. This balance policy will strengthen our hand in resolving crises. I think new initiatives and normalization steps will strengthen our regional and global posture. The Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and our strong ties with African regions will gain more depth," he said, adding that this strategic positioning of Turkey will maintain its strength in the next 10 years.

"A Turkey with a strong domestic economy, continuously increasing its exports, commissioning its first nuclear power plant, entering its domestic electric car and preparing for the centenary of the Republic in a strong, proud and confident manner will continue to be a key player in regional and global issues."

He added that as a strong NATO ally, they have important commitments outside the Western world. "While we are negotiating EU membership and increasing our trade with Europe, we are dealing with Africa. The strong ties we have with the Central Asian Turkish Republics do not prevent us from establishing good relations with Russia."

Kalin said Turkey has serious differences of opinion with countries such as the US, Russia and Iran in the context of Syria and that each is trying to impose its own geopolitical agenda on the region and global politics through Syria.

Stating that Turkey insists on the need for global cooperation, Ibrahim Kalin said they cannot ignore regional developments that are of particular concern to them, from the Gulf crisis in Libya to the Karabakh War to the Eastern Mediterranean. "If you don't take the lead in time, problems will come to your doorstep and catch you off guard. Therefore, in 2022 and in the process leading up to 2023, Turkey is increasing its national opportunities and capabilities with a proactive foreign policy perspective and strengthening its regional and global alliances. It will continue to strengthen," he said.
