Turkish journalist Sedef Kampas was arrested on Saturday in Istanbul on charges of "insulting the President".She had said in a TV program the Turkish proverb "when an ox enters the palace it does not become a king, the palace becomes a barn".

Immediately after her statement, an investigation was launched against her and then the police arrested her at her home. "I gave a statement to the prosecutor's office about this matter. This expression is true and I will repeat it in exactly the same way.It is a proverb, it did not have the meaning of an insult. I wanted to emphasize the united style that embraces the whole society, I do not accept the accusation, I demand to be released," she said.

However, ruling AKP[/B] party spokesman Omer Çelik criticized the journalist saying that the statements showed "lack of morality and vulgarity" and that this had nothing to do with freedom of expression. "It is because of the protection of hate politics that hate crimes are so easily committed," Omer Çelik said."
