First assess the impact of the relaxations and then reduce quarantine, says Dr. Armeytis to the Cyprus Times To convince people to be vaccinated with three doses in order to shield themselves in case of a possible new variant
The view that the impact of the relaxations and whether they will not burden the health system should be evaluated first and then proceed with reducing the quarantine period is expressed by Dr. Armeytis, speaking to the Cyprus Times[/B]. Asked whether he believes that the time has come to reduce the quarantine period - in view of the fact that many countries are moving towards the complete abolition of self-limitation for confirmed cases of covid disease - Dr. Armeytis clarifies that this is an issue that will have to be discussed in the coming days. "And if we see that indeed the relaxations announced by the government have not brought a setback and burden to the hospitals," he says."
"The hospitals are the ones we see first in order to assess the current situation. Certainly, if in the next 10-15 days we see that the new measures and relaxations have no effect, then yes, we should also go for a reduction in quarantine. But if these measures put new pressure on hospitals we will have to think again and carefully," he notes.
Asked to assess the situation in hospitals and say whether he thinks it is manageable, he points out that the downward trend in hospitalizations continues and this is a positive sign. As he explains, in Cyprus we follow a more conservative model and we are slower to remove the measures.
However, as the Cyprus[/B] Times informs, the reduction of quarantine was again put before the Minister of Health following suggestions from scientists, but at the moment it seems to be on the shelf.
Convince citizens for 3rd dose... Exposed to a new mutation
At the same time, as Dr. Armeytis points out, it would be good to convince citizens who have already received vaccination to proceed with the booster doses. "We see that of the 72% vaccinated, 50% have not received a booster dose, this does not satisfy us as in case of a new mutation we will be exposed," he said.
He says that the Ministry of Health should find a way to convince citizens to receive the 3rd dose, as in case of a new variant they will not be shielded.
Finally, he suggests that it is good that many tests are being done, but the only way to protect citizens from hospitalizations and deaths is vaccination, according to studies.
