A 46-year-old expatriate living in Kiev, who has joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army, has told MEGA that he is ready to fight to the death. The father of two children is on the front line of defence in Kiev to protect his home, which is 500 metres from the Ukrainian fighting positions.

Alexis, 46, an expatriate from Kiev, has left his wife and children and joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army.

"They tell me to be careful, dad, we're a bunch of cows, but be careful. I am a Greek living in Ukraine. I am a Greek who was born in these houses here. Since then, yes, I live in Kiev. I have Greek citizenship of course, but I think I have to protect my home," he said.

Alexis considers it his duty, as he tells MEGA's Kiev envoy Marinos Aliferis, to drive the invader out of his homeland.

"When the enemy comes, we have to drive him out."

"When the enemy comes, we have to drive him out."

"When the enemy comes, we have to drive him out. What to feel. We kill them," he said."

"I see killed children."

The military uniform heavy, the look hard. Twelve days into the war, he has seen scenes that have broken him.

"I am very sorry. I am sorry for what is happening in my state. I see people killed. I see children killed. What can I say... How did the Russians come and do this? The only thing they have more than us is how many came. There are many of them," he told MEGA.

His post is the checkpoint at the northwest entrance to Kiev. He says he is ready to fight the big battle there as he will soon hear the creeps of Russian tanks.

The 46-year-old expatriate knows he can't back down. He is determined to defend Kiev together with his fellow warriors.
