"I grew up in three orphanages. When our relatives gave us presents, our elders would take them away from us and buy them back. I was in the orphanage because my mother couldn't support us.

They made me choose who I wanted to live with, my grandmother or my mother. It was very hurtful for a child to have to choose who they wanted to grow up with. I apologized to my grandmother for choosing my mother," John Floriniotis initially said.

John Floriniotis then said, "My stepfather grabbed my mother by the neck and tried to hit her and I beat him up. I promised my mother and grandmother that I would save them from poverty, and I did."
