The UN Secretary General has made a great effort on the Cyprus problem, his spokesman Stefan Dujarik said on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Press and Information Office, Mr. Duzarik, who was responding to a reporter's question as to why the Secretary-General did not issue a similar statement on Cyprus to the one on Ukraine, encouraged the reporter to research what the UN Secretary-General said in the early to mid-1970s about what was happening in Cyprus.

"Currently, the situation in Cyprus is one that the Secretary-General, I think, has put a lot of effort, a lot of political capital into helping the parties resolve their problem on the ground," Dujarik noted.

He added that "whether through his Good Offices or through the peacekeeping mission, we continue to work in this way."
