On his birthday, he photographed the cake that had "Covid- 30. Happy Birthday" written on it. He spoke to the Washington Post about what it's like to be called "Covid" and have your name associated with a deadly virus. "I still laugh," he said, "when I remember the officials at the Sri Lankan airport reading and re-reading my name on the passport and one looking at me, one looking at the documents. I couldn't stand it and laughed in front of them."
