A 26-year-old man was detained for helping an escapee.
As as reported in a previous Cyprus Times report, at around 07:05 a patrol from Pafos CID noticed a car in Kato Pafos near Agapinoros Street in which two people were riding.
According to the Press Spokesman and Head of Pafos CID Michael Nicolaou, the police identified the driver as one of the two escapees, 28-year-old Alexandros Sarkisidis, and the passenger was an unknown man. Police officers immediately gave chase but were unable to apprehend him.

During the chase, the escapee and driver of the vehicle allegedly committed repeated traffic offences, driving dangerously and crashing into two vehicles, to finally manage to escape, drive the car to the area behind the Mall on Angelou Sikelianou Street, abandon it there after locking it and disappear in an unknown direction.
A large scale police search immediately began from the area of the Kato Paphos Mall to the Agapinoros side and also to the Mutallos side, but the perpetrator was not identified. As part of the search, Nicolaou said, apartments, orchards, buildings, outbuildings, sheds and others were searched extensively throughout the day.
Subsequently, the passenger of the vehicle, who is a 26-year-old compatriot and friend of the escapee, was sought. The 26-year-old was located and interviewed denied any involvement in the case however an arrest warrant was issued against him and he was arrested for the offence of assisting a fugitive.
It is noted that the 28-year-old, along with another person aged 34, had managed to escape from their lawful arrest in the early hours of February 5, 2022.
