Awareness of measures to be taken on the occasion of today's World Safer Internet Day
In the last two years, online transactions have exploded, making everyday banking and payments easier and faster. But at the same time, the shift to online transactions also increases the potential for online fraud, with fraudsters attempting to extract personal and banking information from unsuspecting citizens. In this context, citizens are urged to be particularly careful and take the necessary precautions.
Hellenic Bank urges its customers to always be vigilant when making online payments in order to protect themselves from fraudsters.
In order to make secure online payments, it is important to take specific measures. In particular, we should. For example, we choose sites from which we have made purchases/payments in the past. If it is the first time, before we pay, we do research by reading published customer reviews.
We check the website's email address. We make sure we are on the official site of the store or organization we want to make a payment with.
We make online payments only on sites whose address starts with "https" "s" stands for secure.
We avoid using Wi-Fi networks in public places for our payments. If we are somewhere where reliable Wi-Fi is not available, then we choose a 4G/5G connection.
We avoid using a public or shared computer or device (e.g. from a library or cafeteria) to make payments.
To make online payments with a Hellenic Bank card, you may be asked to enter a one-time password (OTP). Never disclose your OTP; it is for your personal use only.
It is understood that we only download applications from official websites or known digital distribution services and activate transaction alerts to be able to take immediate action in case of suspicious transactions.
It is worth noting that Hellenic Bank customers have the ability to temporarily freeze their card via the Hellenic Bank Mobile App, in case their card is lost/stolen or even if they notice a suspicious transaction for additional security. Please be reminded that Hellenic Bank will never ask its customers for passwords, account numbers, card codes, OTP (verification code) via emails, sms messages, phone calls or pop-up windows or links.
If you receive a message or call asking you to disclose personal and banking information such as account numbers, card details or telling you that your card has been deactivated, please call us for confirmation at 8000 9999 (from Cyprus) or +357 22 500500 (from abroad).
