Ministry of Health announces the launch of the "test to stay" measure in kindergartens, pre-primary and special schools

As part of the Ministry of Health's efforts to keep schools safe and operational, as of Monday, March 21, 2022, the "test to stay" measure will be implemented in kindergarten, pre-kindergarten and special schools.

  • Ta children who are close contacts of a confirmed positive incident within the school setting,
  • will be able to come to the predetermined locations announced by the Ministry of Health for a Rapid test on the 3rd, 5th and 7th day after contact. On the remaining days (1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th) parents should perform selftest on their children. The use of the measure is optional.

  • For Special Schools with nursing staff, the test will be administered at the school facility upon arrival of the children. It is understood that children declared as close contacts may not use school buses for their transport.

[*]The measure is retroactive. That is, those children who are self-limiting as close contacts of a confirmed case as of Monday, March 21 will have the option to use the "test to stay" measure.

  • Thosechildren who do not use this measure, will be required to follow the Department of Health's guidance on the management of close contacts of a confirmed positive case. That is, they will self-limit for the 7-day period and release will be by conducting a [/U]Rapid test[/U][/U] with a negative result.

  • Parents will be able to obtain the self-test package from the school's Tracing Officer.
  • Parents/guardians of children who are close contacts will obtain from the school's Tracing Officer, the Screening Record Form which will be presented when they arrive at the designated points for the screening and will then be shown when they enter the school unit.

  • The examination will be given free of charge.
  • Exceptionally, this measure applies only to the opening hours of the school units and after the children leave the school units they will be subject to self-limitation, as they will continue to be considered close contacts and will not be able to take part in other afternoon activities.
  • DHS locations at school sites and clinical laboratories are open from 7:00am to 8:00am to better serve those who will be close contacts.
