Efforts will be made to increase the number of rapid test units, says Health Minister Open schools the view of scientists

Efforts will be made to increase the number of units conducting rapid tests, Health Minister Michael Hadjipantelas said after Wednesday night's Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by Cyprus President Anita Demetriou, which decided on new measures following the spike in cases of coronavirus.

Specifically, asked after the Cabinet meeting whether it has been ensured that there will be sampling units in sufficient numbers even on New Year's Day, Hatzipantelas said that the rapid test should be of 24 hours' duration and "so one can take the test on New Year's Eve when there are enough rapid test units all over Cyprus".

Asked whether the number of rapid test units will be increased, the Health Minister said that "we will try to increase them."

Asked what about schools, Hatzipantelas said that "the view of the Scientific Advisory Committee is that schools should remain open."
