Notice of payment of 2,000 euros to 59-year-old man for possession of duty-free tobacco products

A notice to pay a sum of 2,000 euros was issued to a 59-year-old man in whose possession members of the police found a quantity of untaxed tobacco products.

In his possession were found 37 cartons of ten packets of cigarettes, three cartons of five packets of tobacco, another six packets of cigarettes and another two packets of tobacco.

The quantity of untaxed tobacco products was found by members of the Limassol OPE, after searching the car of the 59-year-old, who had been stopped for checking around 10.30 yesterday evening, in an area of Limassol, where he was driving his vehicle.

Since the packages did not have the necessary markings, suspicions were raised that they were untaxed products and members of the police proceeded to arrest the 59-year-old, who was then driven to the Limassol OPE offices for examinations.

An officer of the Customs Department was summoned to the offices of the OPE and went there, who found that the tobacco products possessed by the 59-year-old were duty free and after proceeding to their confiscation, issued to the 59-year-old an out-of-court settlement for the amount of 2,000 euros, for their possession.
