Judicial intervention in the surgery and transfusions of an anti-vaccine child in Italy
The Bologna juvenile court, today gave the go-ahead for surgery and transfusions to be carried out on a child, aged just two years old, who is suffering from a serious heart condition and has been admitted to the Sant'Orsola hospital.
The boy's parents had insisted that only blood from unvaccinated donors be used for as many transfusions as needed, prompting a strong reaction from the country's scientific community.
Meanwhile, new cases of coronavirus in Italy are 101,864 and 415 patients have died due to complications of Covid-19. In total, 999,095 diagnostic tests were performed, 10.2% of which were positive. There are 1,376 patients in the country's intensive care units, 47 fewer than on Monday.
There are 18,337 patients in hospital wards (338 fewer than in the previous 24 hours). At this stage, in Italy the number of citizens diagnosed positive for the virus is 1,927,800. The Government of Rome has also confirmed that from 11 February protective masks will no longer be compulsory in open spaces. It should only be worn in the case of crowded places.
As for indoor areas, the compulsory use of the mask remains in force until 31 March. Then, depending on the indicators of the pandemic, a decision will be taken to abolish or extend the measure. As for football matches, according to La Repubblica, the Draghi government intends to increase the occupancy of stadiums to 75% of the total from March 1 and then, if the cases continue to decrease, to return to 100% occupancy, probably from March 15.
