As the Ministry of Transport informs, a proposal from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works was approved today by the Council of Ministers regarding the extension of the Incentive Plan for airlines to address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the connectivity of Cyprus and the development of air transport.

In a statement after the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Yiannis Karousos explained that "this is a six-month extension of the existing temporary Incentive Plan, which is in line with the temporary framework for state aid relaxation approved by the European Commission and which was due to expire by the end of the year. The European Commission has decided to extend the temporary Plan and the relaxations by six months, as well as to increase the cap, and therefore we have prepared and submitted to the Council of Ministers a relevant proposal to extend the existing Plan that we are implementing, so that it is also in line with the limits and conditions set by the European Commission."

"The temporary Incentive Plan has been found to be very effective and has worked successfully, as statistics show that in 2021 we have succeeded in having flights to 158 destinations In 2021 we have 62 airlines operating in Cyprus, compared to 2019 when we had 70 airlines and we have flights to 40 countries and at the same time we have one of the lowest flight reductions in Europe," the Minister said.

In addition, the Council of Ministers today approved a proposal by the Minister of Transport to grant financial assistance for the design and construction of an electric car to the First Technical and Vocational School of Education and Training of Nicosia. "This is an initiative of this School, which has an ongoing project to convert an antique car into an electric car and in the context of supporting electromobility, we have embraced this initiative and will support it with the appropriate sponsorship, which will reach the amount of €25,000," Mr. Karousos.

Finally, the Council of Ministers today approved a proposal on the policy on free admission to museums. This is a policy that has been implemented for about a year by Ministerial Decision. "Now it will also be included in the relevant Antiquities Regulations and a proposal has been approved today and will be forwarded to Parliament, so that the Regulations will also be changed through the inclusion of free entry to museums that are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Antiquities."
