"Green" by the Cabinet of Ministers on the Bill on tourist offices - travel agents Appointments of members of the Board of Registration of Medical PhysiciansThe Cabinet of Ministers met today under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Anastasiades. The following decisions were taken.[/B]
The main purpose of the Bill is to:
- To remove barriers to the provision of tourism services by Tourism and Travel Agencies, by grouping a licensed Agency with agencies/companies providing complementary or related activities such as travel insurance, foreign exchange, shipping, car rental and transport;
- To simplify the inspection and licensing procedures of Tourism and Travel Agencies;
- To reduce the Administrative Burden:
(i) the validity of the licence to operate an Office and the licence to exercise the profession of tourist guide is extended from two years to three years and
(ii) the grounds for revoking the licence to operate a Tourism and Travel Office are extended.
- The more effective fight against illegality:
(i) provisions are introduced to deal with the offence of operating a Tourist and Travel Agency without a licence;
(ii) administrative penalties and the collection of administrative fines are introduced for offenders of the legislation under consideration,
(ii) provisions are made for the effective treatment of offences arising from the provision of the services of Tourism and Travel Offices via the Internet,
- The simplification of the provisions relating to the qualifications required for the Director of the Tourism and Travel Office. The submission of an application by the proposed Director is approved provided that he/she holds a diploma from a university or recognized higher school in tourism or has at least 3 years of experience in Tourism Offices.
The Bill will be tabled in the House of Representatives for enactment into law.
The Council of Ministers also decided to appoint the following as members of the Medical Physicians Registration Board for a period of three years: Dr. Prodromos Kaplanis, Charalambos Giannakaras, Anastasia Sissou, Kostas Michael, Dimitris Kaolis, Rita Dimou and Erato Stylianou-Markidou.
