\NWhat the EODY data showed from the thousands of tests conducted on December 30 Detailed data for each region of the country
Omicron variant is spreading in our country. Of the 6,604 positive samples for SARS-CoV-2 between 20 December and 30 December, 2,840 tested positive for Omicron (43.0%), the EODY reports with rates per day ranging from 12.5% to 62.1% in our country Thus, on Thursday 30 December, the percentage of positive samples for the Omicron strain was 62.1% across the country.
It should be noted that six laboratories across the country are testing for possible Omicron samples using the real-time PCR method (S gene drop out method) which can reliably distinguish Omicron samples from other strains.
Specifically, at the Central Public Health Laboratory (KEDY) in the Attica region, 52.3% (954/1,825) of positive PCR cases were Omicron cases, with daily rates ranging from 0% to 78.0%.
In the Thessaloniki region, in the Laboratory of the Medical School of AUTH, 45.3% (424/935) of positive PCRs involved Omicron cases, with daily rates ranging from 0% to 58.7%, while in the Laboratory of Applied Biosciences INEB EKETA 7.0% (31/442) of positive PCRs involved Omicron cases, with daily rates ranging from 0% to 11%.
In samples from the University of Patras Medical School, 35.7% (383/1,073) of positive PCRs involved Omicron cases, with rates per day ranging between 0% and 59.1%.
In samples from the Medical School of the University of Crete, 45.7% (859/1,878) of positive PCRs were for Omicron cases, with rates per day ranging between 0% and 71.2%. In samples from the Medical School of the University of Thessaly, 41.9% (58/119) of positive PCRs were for Omicron cases, with rates per day ranging between 0% and 68.7%.
Moreover, according to the results of the SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance until 30 December 2021, a total of 100 confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection carrying the Omicron strain have been diagnosed.
\NAs the HOSP notes, these cases do not reflect the actual number of Omicron cases in the community, but just a number of suspected cases to be confirmed, along with a number of cases investigated following random sampling of cases diagnosed in the HOSP's Mobile Health Teams (HMTs).
