According to a statement from the organization, the child suffered injuries, is now in good health and is in a safe environment. The mother appealed for help, as she had regretted her action

A mother called the National Hotline for Children SOS 1056 of "The Smile of the Child", stating, in a strong emotional state, that she had just hit her 2-month-old infant, and was concerned about his state of health, as the child had sustained injuries.

According to a statement issued late Wednesday night by the organization, the mother appealed for help as she regretted the act she had just committed and said she had not done it willingly.

Subsequently, "The Smile of the Child" informed the ambulance and the Police Authorities, and following a call from the ambulance, an ambulance of the Organization went immediately to the house, transporting the infant safely and with absolute care to the hospital for the necessary medical examinations, accompanied by specialized people of the Organization.

In this sadness caused by the news, the happy fact is that the infant is in a safe environment, is in good health and is receiving the care and attention of the Agency's people. "The Smile of the Child" will be close to the infant, and its scientific staff will not leave his side for a moment, offering him holistic support and meeting any need he may have.

Regarding the situation of the mother, a social investigation is underway and is being carried out by the authorities. As in every case, the people of the Agency - if requested - will stand by this vulnerable mother, with the aim of supporting and strengthening the family in order to make it functional and able to respond to the smooth and healthy development of the child.

The shocking complaint of abuse of the infant, unfortunately, confirms the deep concern of the scientific staff of the "Smile of the Child" Organization, just one day after the announcement of its annual work report, according to which in 2021, the 4 Support and Help Lines recorded:

22.567 child victims of violence supported by the Agency

204,791 calls in total to all Help and Support Lines (1 call every 2 seconds).

45.57% of calls for psychological support were from children
1 call per day was for psychological support for bullying issues
A high proportion of calls were for Fear/Anxiety Management (9.72%)
More than one case of suicidal ideation per day.

The National SOS Hotline 1056, in 2021, rang every two minutes for a case of a child at risk. Children who have been abused or neglected by their extended family or immediate family.
