Written statement by the Government Spokesman Mr. Marios Pelekanou on the Moneyval report - "Confirmation of the correctness and effectiveness of the measures taken by the Government" "Cyprus continues to improve"

The Government welcomes the Moneyval report on the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

According to the Government Spokesman, Mario Pelecanos, "the answer to the situation of our country and the strengthening of our institutions comes from another international competent institution."

He notes that "MONEYVAL, in its December 2021 report, points out that Cyprus continues to improve as it complies with all 40 parameters it examines. On 36 of them fully or to a large extent and partially on only 4."

"We should point out that this report also does not fully reflect the achievements, as the organisation itself records that measures have been taken in important areas in the last year which have not yet been assessed by the international organisation," it adds.

"What is recorded in the MONEYVAL progress report is yet another confirmation of the correctness and effectiveness of the measures taken by the Government to strengthen the framework to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism," it concludes.
