[Cyprus Times] Government denounces Turkish soldiers' threats to Deneia farmer to EU

Statements by the Government Spokesman on the incident in Deneia Nicosia has informed the UN and is preparing to denounce the Turkish provocations to the EU.The Director of FRONTEX and the Vice-President of the European Commission visited Cyprus "Issues concerning the surveillance of the Green Line for migration purposes will be discussed."

The Cyprus Government will also denounce to the EU the incident of harassment of a Greek Cypriot farmer in Deneia, by the occupation forces, Government Spokesman Mr. Marios Pelekanos.


In remarks to reporters at the Presidential Palace, the Spokesman said that in what,regarding the harassment of a Greek Cypriot farmer in Deneia by the occupation forces, "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already reported the incident to the United Nations, which has launched an investigation. As the UN has already informed us, we expect that this incident will be included in the next reports prepared for UNFICYP services in Cyprus."

Asked about this, he said that "all incidents in which Security Council resolutions and the Green Line are violated are denounced. Of course, this incident will also be reported to the EU."

In response to a reporter's remark that the Director of FRONTEX and the Vice-President of the Commission are arriving in Cyprus the Spokesman said that "it is a very important issue, they are coming at the invitation of the Minister of Interior and they will discuss during their visit the issues related to the surveillance of the Green Line for migration purposes. Therefore, we should expect to have these consultations with the officials to see what will emerge so that the Republic of Cyprus' ability to prevent illegal entries can be enhanced."
