The Cyprus Police may state that they have been trying since this morning to contact Ilias Gioni about the information they claim to have about Cyprus' involvement in a pimping ring, but he claims that this is not true.

The denial came through the mouth of his lawyer Georgios Zisis, who spoke to iefimerida.gr and when asked about the issue claimed that "There is no such case. We deny it. No one has called us. As far as I know, none of the competent authorities in Cyprus have contacted either Ilias Gioni or me, his attorney."

Earlier, Police Spokesman Christos Andreou had said the police still do not have any official complaint or evidence implicating Cyprus in such a ring.

He said that since this morning the police have been trying to contact the person "who yesterday expressed his intention to give a statement, but this has not been achieved as we speak, in order to give us the testimony that he expressed his intention to give us".

The activist receives death threats

Meanwhile, the lawyer of Ilia Gioni spoke about the threatening messages the activist receives. "Of course Elias Gioniis is receiving threats. Not only abusive comments but also threats to his life. Fortunately we have kept all the threatening material, either in the mail, Facebook or instagram and we reserve the right to take appropriate action within the next few days. Threats to his life as well as abusive comments. From the first moment and before taking any action he sought my legal advice. I clearly warned him of the risks he was running and what was to follow. Both legally for possible lawsuits but also for his physical integrity. He was determined to come out and tell the truth as he always does. So I could neither prevent him nor encourage him."

Wave of support for Ilias Gioni

On the other hand, as Ilias Gioni's lawyer points out, a large online wave of support is underway. George Zisis states: "Of course there is a big wave of support for Ilias Gioni. Something that is very touching indeed."
