The army on Attiki Odos for rescues

A general strike everywhere in the public and private sector was announced shortly before 19:30 due to the severe weather.

At the same time, a wide mobilization of army and forces for Attiki Odos is underway, in order to extricate drivers who have been trapped for more than five hours in their vehicles.

According to information from in.gr, an extrication operation is underway from six points. "Our concern is how to get people out of Attiki Odos," government sources said.

At the same time, a new emergency briefing on the bad weather will be held at 20:00 by Christos Stylianidis.

Prosecutor's intervention for driver entrapment

As it became known earlier, the intervention of the judiciary was triggered by the entrapment of drivers on Attiki Odos.

By order of the head of the Athens Prosecutor's Office Sotiria Papageorgakopoulou, a preliminary examination was ordered, in the context of which any responsibilities for the offence of obstructing traffic will be sought.

The investigation will be conducted by the head of the criminal prosecution Antonis Eleftherianos.

"To seek responsibilities"

The issue was mentioned during the emergency briefing on bad weather and the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianides.

Specifically, Stylianides said that the management company should be held responsible for the situation created in Attiki Odos and that he will recommend this to the Prime Minister.

"The biggest problem at the moment is located in Attiki Odos. Unfortunately, the company has failed to keep the road open, despite the promises made to us in the meetings of the previous days. Responsibilities will be sought, that will be my recommendation to the Prime Minister. All forces are on the alert and are intervening immediately where necessary. The situation is improving on Attiki Odos, so far we are experiencing few problems with the electricity supply."
