Gas shipments to Europe resume normally, Gazprom says

Gas shipments to Europe via Ukraine resume normally on the basis of customer requests, Russian state-owned Gazprom said.

Requests on March 4 amounted to 109.5 million cubic meters (bcm), the same as the previous day's level.

Meanwhile, according to data published by Bruegel, the value of gas imports from Russia to Europe yesterday amounted to €660 million, up from almost €500 million the day before.

Moreover, according to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), Gazprom's 15 bcm gas import contracts, representing 21% of its exports to the EU in 2021, are expected to expire at the end of 2022. More generally, Gazprom's long-term export contracts amounting to around 40 bcm are expected to expire at the end of the decade.

As reported, in 2021 it imported an average of 380 million cubic meters of gas per day via pipelines from Russia, equivalent to 140 bcm in total for the whole year.

In addition, about 15 bcm were imported in the form of liquefied natural gas.

According to the IEA, the European Union countries' total gas imports from Russia in 2021 amounted to 155 bcm and accounted for about 45% of total EU gas imports and 40% of total gas consumption.
