A 56-year-old man suffered extensive burns after a gas cylinder exploded

A 56-year-old man was seriously injured on Saturday by a fire caused by a gas cylinder explosion, while cooking in the kitchen of his apartment in Paphos.

According to a spokesman for the Paphos Police Directorate, at 19:10 on Saturday night, information was received about a fire in an apartment. Members of the Fire Service and the Paphos Police Directorate went to the scene and further investigations revealed that the fire broke out while the occupant of the apartment was preparing food.

According to preliminary examinations, the explosion was caused due to the loss of LPG from the cylinder.

The 56-year-old was transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital. According to the doctor on duty, he has extensive burns of first, second and third degree all over his body.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the 56-year-old is expected to be transferred on Sunday to a burns clinic of the Nicosia General Hospital.
