Fuel tax cut inadequate, says DEOK calling for a comprehensive support package
The government's decision to reduce the excise tax on fuel is inadequate, the DEOK said in a statement today, while calling for a comprehensive package of measures.
According to the ICFTU, "piecemeal measures without coherence and social effectiveness are doomed to failure", adding that it expects the government to come up with a comprehensive package of measures that effectively covers workers, the unemployed, low pensioners and people who rely on welfare benefits.
Specifically, it calls for a review of benefit policy and an adjustment of all social welfare benefits, as well as emergency financial support for small pensioners. It also calls for serious consideration to be given to the possibility of reducing VAT on electricity and imposing a cap on foodstuffs.
"In the current context, the reintroduction of the institution of the ATA as an irreplaceable tool for restoring the market value of wages is of crucial importance," it stresses, adding that the institution should be expanded to adequately cover the weakest classes of workers.
"In the current context, it is also crucial to reintroduce the institution of the ATA as an irreplaceable tool for restoring the market value of wages," it stresses, adding that the institution should be expanded in order to adequately cover the weakest classes of workers.
In conclusion, the ICFTU states that "according to all estimates, and due to the Ukrainian crisis, inflation will continue to gallop, literally removing incomes and undermining the purchasing power of wages", thus underlining the necessity of its proposals.
