Department of Health announces launch of 'test to stay' measure in Education Service

As part of the Department of Health's efforts to keep schools safe and operational, Effective Monday, March 14, 2022, the "test to stay" measure will be implemented in the Education Service.[/B]

Recall that, the measure is aimed at persons who are close contacts and under the protocol are required to be confined.

Συγκεκριμένα: a) individuals with no history of vaccination or who have not completed their vaccination schedule;

individuals who have completed their vaccination schedule and the 7-month period has elapsed;

[C] individuals who hold a certificate of infection and the 90-day period has elapsed.

Instructions to teachers:


  • Teachers in public and private secondary and primary education (primary schools, kindergartens, special schools) who are close contacts within the school premises and make use of the measure "test to stay" will be able to attend the predetermined points in schools or clinical laboratories announced daily by the Ministry of Health, to have a rapid antigen detection test (Rapid test) carried out daily for a period of 7 consecutive days after contact. It is understood that during the weekend, the procedure "test to stay" is not required.
  • The measure is not retroactive. It applies to teachers who will declare close contacts of a confirmed positive case as of Monday 14 March 2022.
  • The test will be provided free of charge.
  • OTeachers who will not make use of this measure if they are a contact of a positive case will have to make use of the special leave of absence.[BR][*]Teachers who are close contacts will be issued with a Check Record Form by the school's Tracing Officer, which they will present for the 7-day period on arrival at the designated points and then present upon entering the school.

  • This measure applies exceptionally only to the opening hours of school units (including single full-day schools and optional full-day schools) and after the teachers leave the schools, they will be subject to self-limitation as they will continue to be considered close contacts and will not be able to take part in other evening activities.
