The French Rafale[/B] fighters flying in the airspace of the Republic of Cyprus are taking off from the French aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle, which is currently in the Mediterranean Sea.

The aircraft carrier is expected to dock at the port of Limassol around the end of February, according to the Cyprus News Agency.

The flights of the French aircraft, from today until Sunday, are mainly aimed at testing the air defence system of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as training the personnel of the National Guard in real conditions.

As announced by the Ministry of Defence, the training activity, which is part of the implementation of the Cyprus-France defence cooperation programme, is taking place in parts of the land and airspace of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

The flights performed are part of the preparation of the upcoming Cyprus-France air exercise "TALOS/2022", which involves the virtual attack of targets by fighter aircraft and the reaction of the National Guard's anti-aircraft systems.
