"Freezing" in Cyprus tonight Meteorological Service issues yellow warning for low temperatures

The Meteorological Service issued a yellow warning for the evening.

As mentioned, it warns of extremely low temperatures.

In Troodos in particular the mercury is expected to drop to minus 9!

Detailed forecasts

A cold air mass will affect the region through Saturday. Low pressure and warmer air masses are expected from Sunday.

Tonight the weather will be mainly clear, with patchy clouds, possibly with isolated showers, mainly during the morning hours on the coast. Winds will be mainly northwest to northeast, light and occasionally locally moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be generally to slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to around 2 degrees inland, around 4 degrees on the coast and around minus 6 degrees in the higher mountains. Frost is expected to form in the mountains, in the semi-mountains, and in leeward areas of the interior.

Tomorrow the weather will be partly cloudy and isolated showers are expected, as well as occasional snowfall locally in the mountains. Winds will initially be variable, light 3 Beaufort to gradually becoming mainly west to northwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough. The temperature will rise to around 10 degrees in the interior, around 12 degrees on the coast and around 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost will prevail locally. Winds will blow mainly northwest to northeast, light 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little rough.

On Saturday, periods of sunshine will alternate with clouds, which from noon onwards will probably produce isolated showers or occasional snowfall locally in the mountains.

On Sunday the weather will be mainly cloudy at times, with isolated showers at times and snowfall locally in the higher mountains.

On Monday the weather will be mainly cloudy and isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, not excluding occasional snowfall on the higher peaks of the Troodos, mainly from midday onwards.

Temperatures will gradually rise during the weekend, to be close to average climatic values.

The snow depth at Troodos Square, at the time of writing, was 78 cm.
