He was the son of Argyris Hondos, one of the 5 co-founding brothers of the "Hondos Center" department stores
After a battle with cancer, Frederikos Hondos breathed his last on Wednesday at the age of 40. His funeral will take place on Monday, December 27 and he will be buried at the Kifissia cemetery.
Frederikos was the son of Argyris Hondos, one of the five co-founding brothers of the "Hondos Center" department stores.
The five brothers who founded the stores are: George, Giannis, Nikos, Argyris and Kostas. All of them had come down from their village, Mikres (today's Honteika) to Athens at the time of the great urbanization for a better tomorrow. Their vocation, as it turned out, was commerce.
They started as peddlers of soaps, perfumes and cheap cosmetics of the time, which they distributed to the employees of the Bank of Greece and the policemen of the Athens Security Service. Later, they were "upgraded" as they took over the operation of a pavilion on Homer Street. In 1967, with their first savings, they managed to open their first store directly opposite the Omirou pavilion. Having caught the pulse of the market and the economic changes taking place in urban societies, they addressed exclusively to women.
Success was immediate, thus laying the foundations for what became the largest chain of cosmetics stores - and not only - in the country. Over the years moreover, the product range would constantly expand, from clothing, footwear and home goods to accessories, jewellery, etc. The focus on the female consumer will remain, but their stores will now target both men and children, making them a major force in retail.
[/P]In June 2020, Frederick's uncle Giannis Hontos died of cancer,
at the age of 67. Yannis Hontos had also lost his wife to cancer.
