Carrying vehicles to St Petersburg It was stopped as part of EU sanctions against Moscow
French authorities stopped a merchant ship carrying vehicles to St Petersburg which was suspected to belong to a Russian company, which is being targeted by EU sanctions against Moscow over the war in Ukraine, French Press Agency and Reuters news agency reported today.
A customs authorities vessel, supported by a coast guard speedboat and a navy patrol boat, escorted the Baltic Leader cargo ship, which had sailed from Rouen under the Russian flag, to the port of Boulogne, explained Veronique Manin, a communications officer of the regional port authorities.
For the 127-metre-long ship "there are serious suspicions that it is linked to Russian interests targeted by sanctions", the same source explained, stressing that this measure, which is a sign of "determination", is "rare" in this region.
According to the officer, checks are being carried out by the customs authorities.
