Setting fixed charges to avoid overcharging, says the Ministry of Transport says it regularly evaluates these regulations and takes into account suggestions such as those of the Cyprus Consumer Association
The regulation of fixed fares for a number of routes to and from Larnaca and Paphos airports was made in order to provide adequate information to visitors/tourists to Cyprus and the travelling public in general, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works said in a statement.[/B]
In a statement in response to today's publications on the issue, the Ministry notes that the purpose of setting the fixed fare for the specific routes is to solve the long-standing problem which mainly concerns the proper information of visitors/tourists in Cyprus and the travelling public in general.
As it states, the setting of fixed fares is expected to give reliability to taxi transport, since the travelling public will know in advance the exact amount they will pay, regardless of the route the driver will take, the traffic on the road network and the number of luggage he will carry.
"In particular, the aim of this regulation is to avoid any overcharging for journeys to and from airports, a practice which is applied in many other European countries," it adds.
Finally, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works says it regularly evaluates these regulations and takes into account suggestions such as those of the Cyprus Consumers' Association for any regulations in the taxi sector in order to make any adjustments.
