First official meeting between Stefanos Stefanos and Papadopoulos with an eye on the Presidential Elections What the two party leaders said

The General Secretary of AKEL Stefanos Stefanos and the President of DIKO held their first meeting this morning, Nicolas Papadopoulos, in the context of finding common ground for joining forces in the upcoming presidential elections.

The meeting took place at the offices of the Democratic Party and lasted about an hour.

During his remarks, DIKO President Nicolas Papadopoulos said that the meeting took place in an excellent atmosphere, stressing that they agreed that change was needed."

"We agree on the need for change. As the Democratic Party we will continue contacts with opposition parties with the expectation that we will be able to reach a common political framework for all the important issues that concern society today," Papadopoulos said.

For his part, AKEL Secretary General Stefanos Stefanou said that during the debate there was a realisation that this country needs change as, he added, the deadlocks caused by the DISY government over the years, on all the key issues that characterise and determine the course of the country, are too many.

"Therefore, we need to try through discussion, with sincerity, to be able to work together so that we can create the conditions to achieve change in the next presidential elections," he said.
