The fate of a 5-year-old boy trapped in a deep well for more than 36 hours has caused great anguish in Morocco today, while rescue crews try to free him by digging up the ground around the well.
Rayan accidentally fell on Tuesday night into a 32-metre-deep dry well, which is narrow and difficult to reach. This is located near his family's home in a village a short distance from the Bab Bered district in the province of Sepsaouen in northern Morocco, according to local media.

Rescue teams succeeded in supplying the 5-year-old with water and oxygen through tubes, according to the MAP news agency.
Five excavators sent to the site are digging the ground around the well. The excavation work has reached a depth of more than 19 meters, according to local authorities cited by MAP.
Members of the rescue teams, who have been making efforts for more than 24 hours to extricate the boy, could not descend directly into the well as its diameter does not exceed 45 centimeters, Abdelhabi Temrani, in charge of the operation to rescue the 5-year-old, told public television network Al Oula.
Little Rayan's accident has caused great emotion and many messages of solidarity are being posted on social media, with a hashtag on Twitter.
